My most recent contest entry!

Cliche Laces

Well I know it's a cliché but it's also my most worthy of being featured (as per the popular vote in my journal!) *shrugs*

My Mind Wanders

Third time I ever put makeup on myself. I kinda like it!

Complementary Bierstadts

Howl's Bedroom

This has already been featured before on my profile quite a while back, but I brought it back after enough people voted it in on my journal poll.

Awesome People

Every now and then someone says something to me totally out of the blue that makes me feel great about myself. Here are those people (this list started September 13th, 2009...so if you don't see yourself here but you think you should be that's the reason. I'm so sorry! I'm open to adding you though if you can help me find the quote in question!)

Emoticons? How?

There are a few types of emoticons and graphics that you can use on the site:

Emoticons: All made by users then deemed worthy by the staff, the complete list of emoticons can be seen at the bottom right-hand corner of the mini-window that pops up when you click "reply" on a comment or when you make your own original post (be it on someone's poll, journal, profile, on the forum, or wherever). The emoticons are universal on the site and even work in the chatrooms and shoutboxes. :faint: :D :pills: :bounce: (Just copy or type the complete code into your message including all colons.)

Icons: User avatars can be embedded in text as well, but are slightly more limited than emoticons and won't show up *quite* everywhere on the site, but are nearly universal. To embed someone's avatar type in : icon username : without the spaces. For example mine is : icon kproductions :, which without the spaces displays like this :iconkproductions:.

PLZ Icons: PLZ icons are actually emoticons that users have created that are NOT listed on the official emoticon list. They can be used like normal emoticons because an entire account has been created for the purpose of using that specific emoticon as the avatar. Because of this all you have to do is embed the avatar of the PLZ account just like you would a normal user's avatar. Several months ago I saw a news article that a staggering 60 new PLZ accounts were created every day, so keep a lookout for them.

Most PLZ accounts are identified by having a "PLZ" at the end of their username (to keep them separate from names that real users might want to use) but not all of them do.

PLZ's can be stationary :iconimhappyplz: animated :icongwomp: or even multi-faceted :icontngcar1plz::icontngcar2plz::icontngcar3plz: (for these, since avatars are a uniform size, you have to track down every component graphic and embed them in the correct horizontal and vertical order.)

Thumbnails: These are simply the preview versions of deviations. They work in the forums and in private notes for non-subscribers and also in the artist's comments, profile boxes like this and journals for those with paid memberships.

You'll see the thumb code for every deviation at the bottom right of the artist's comments.

I walked through a swarm of bees today!

Journal Entry: Tue Nov 10, 2009, 1:33 AM

It's steppin' time!

Yeah that's right.

So today was full of close calls through and through. It started when I woke up and immediately read a chapter of my book and wrote an essay over that chapter and emailed it to my professor exactly when it was due. After that I decided to fart around for a while then take a late shower.

My shower ran really long and I left at 2:07 to get to my 2:30 class that's a minimum of 20 minutes (sometimes 30-40 minutes) away plus up to ten minutes to park. Not only did I make it there in 19 minutes flat while barely speeding, I also took only 30 seconds to park and entered the building at exactly 2:29, seating myself right at 2:30.

Class went really well, and when it was over I headed back out to the parking lot. As I approached the aisle my car was on, I noticed hundreds...thousands of little dots flying around frantically in the sunlight. It wasn't until I was right in the middle of the cloud of bugs that I realized I had walked directly into the middle of a swarm of bees. a bee hive had fallen or something and the entire swarm was pulsating around me.

Amazingly not a single one landed on me and I just sort of...walked through them. I didn't even get nervous even though I'm deathly allergic to LOTS of things, probably including bee stings. :D You may not know this, but bees are so small and fast that they're impossible to photograph effectively even if you're in the middle of a swarm (as far as conveying how many there were, at least) and if I'd stood far away to get them all in the shot, none of them would have showed up in the photo! My solution was to go to my car, drive back within its protection, snap a photo through my window of a few of the stationary ones and come home:

(every one of those blurs is another bee near that spot also...and I swear the whole swarm was like this!)

After that everything was gravy...I went home and finished up a project, went back to school and presented it, learned that someone else did their project on the same person (wasn't supposed to happen) and I claimed responsibility (it really was my fault) but there weren't any consequences and the thing went really well! :XD:

New Skin!

So do you like the new version of this skin? I think it has its own good qualities but I'm not so sure it's better than the last one, honestly.

Yay Government!

So the House passed the Health Reform Bill and the President signed the Matt Shepard Act into law since my last journal! We lost progress in Maine in the ballot measure, but I'm sure that will soon enough be reversed. The Health Reform Bill might not pass the Senate especially with people like Joe Lieberman in the mix, but hopefully it will soon. I really need coverage as does my family.

As far as voting here in Texas goes, I either voted yes or abstained from the 11 proposed amendments to the constitution. None of them were very debated and all 11 won with a landslide...especially the measure that further limits our cities' and state's rights to claim eminent domain on citizens' houses.

Well I am a bit of a puzzle...

I find that I'm often very in-between, contradictory, well-balanced, or whatever other terms you can apply to someone being stuck in the middle-ground a lot.

As you might be able to tell by my picture up there I'm adrogynous, which is a form of transexuality in that the person feels stuck between genders. Anatomically I'm male, but I feel as much a girl as I do a boy. On top of that I'm bisexual, which means I'm attracted to both men and women equally!

Could I possibly be more uniquely in the middle? Yes! Now I will admit here and now that I am quite liberal politically speaking and I DO have very strong feelings about many world issues. I can also tell you I have maternal instincts strong enough that I would lay down my life in an instant for any child, but on with what I was saying:

:bulletred: I consider myself a scientist and an artist
:bulletorange: Scientifically I feel that my life is pointless, however I cherish it greatly and hope it lasts forever
:bulletyellow: I easily forgive anyone that's wronged me, but if I have wronged another it bothers me for years
:bulletgreen: My eyes bring my the most daily physical pain and difficulty, but I'm still most attracted to anything visual. My previous major was Astronomy (a totally visual science) and I have since switched to Arts & Technology

*more to come (August 7th, 2009) I had to leave for dinner. ;)

Watchers

Why so proud?

"Hello, I have a question that is not an insult. I am uhm. Andro.

Anyway, I would like to know why you say ' pride ' if you are born with it? Like being proud of good looks, you don't do much for them, you just are born with them."

My answer:
Thanks for the question! No insult was taken. Here's my answer:

Well it's very similar to an African American person being proud of their heritage. There truly is no difference between African Americans and everyone else in the nation (or world) other than their skin tone, but many are proud nonetheless.

I wouldn't consider being proud of good looks to be the best analogy in this situation, as someone that has good looks is almost always boosted up by our society. That constant positive energy from people because of their good looks naturally leads to pride. The reason it's important for Lesbians, Gays, Bisexuals, Transgendered people, and so on to be proud is because society has yet to fully accept us.

Same sex marriage is still illegal throughout the majority of the United States, crimes committed against LGBT people out of hate are still not considered hate crimes by federal law, police still raid gay bars at the drop of a hat (just happened last week in the town next to mine), LGBT people are forbidden from joining the armed forces, and on top of many other problems there's still a general misunderstanding about and disdain for the LGBT community throughout the nation and worldwide.

The pride that we feel and proclaim so visibly and vocally is our inner voice and strength pushing our respective nations towards equal rights for everyone. Rather than gather our pride from others through compliments for our good looks or anything like that, we generate our own pride from within to help keep ourselves motivated in our fight for equality in the face of discrimination.

Go look at this deviation! Click the thumb...it's not my own deviation, rather a feature of someone else's.

Hello!
I recently began using your Journal skin (via the freebie day) but need some help. Can I change the Featured and stamp sections on my own? Or will they always reflect your settings?
